Dr. James Tan brings 32 years of medical experience and over 14 years of senior medical director experience to his role as the `Ohana senior medical director. In this position, Dr. Tan assumes responsibility for the performance of `Ohana's health services and pharmacy operations. He oversees all quality management, care management, health and wellness, and is responsible for network contracting strategy.
Prior to joining `Ohana, Dr. Tan served in several senior and executive positions including senior vice president and national medical director for AMERIGROUP, senior vice president and medical director for New York-Presbyterian Community Health Plan, chief medical officer for Fidelis Care New York, vice president and managed care medical director for Glens Falls Hospital of New York as well as chief executive officer and medical director for Sierra Angeles Health Care Group. Previously, Dr. Tan served in several clinical and teaching positions, and he currently maintains a weekend clinical practice.
Dr. Tan received his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Public Health and Doctorate of Medicine degrees from Loma Linda University. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Redlands and is licensed to practice medicine in the states of Hawai`i, California, New York and South Carolina. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and American College of Physician Executives. In addition, for the past 14 years, Dr. Tan has been a physician surveyor for the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and serves on the Review Oversight Committee.
