The Program seeks to attract young physicians to the Big Island who will continue to serve the rural areas of all Islands upon the completion of their residency.

'Ohana serves more than 21,000 members, many of who live in rural areas that are medically underserved. This includes members on the Big Island, which is currently experiencing a physician shortage. Donations to the Program will go towards building a 4,350 square-foot clinical and educational space that will include eight exam rooms, and additional rooms for procedures, consultations and conferences, with hopes of attracting physicians, nurses and pharmacists.

What these associates really do is have fun while helping members get more out of life. 'Ohana Community Outreach associates make themselves available to meet with groups on any Island including Lana`I, which is one of the more remote islands.

The Kalihi Valley has a high concentration of poor and marginalized individuals, and has thus been a particular focus for 'Ohana Outreach efforts. Together with KKV, 'Ohana had the opportunity to provide gift baskets that contained necessities and surprises to more than a hundred shut-ins and more than three hundred healthier seniors during the 2008 holidays.
